Credentials/ Education:

Naturopathic Doctor 

  • Elizabeth is a Naturopathic Doctor who received her Doctor of Naturopathy from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. To become a naturopathic doctor in Ontario, you require a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, followed by acceptance to an accredited naturopathic college of which there are 2 in Canada (CCNM in Toronto, and CCNM in Vancouver). The doctor of Naturopathy degree is a 4 year program consisting of over 4100 hours of classroom training in medical science, naturopathic principles and therapeutics, and 1200 hours of supervised clinical practicum. While in her clinical internship, Elizabeth spent 1 year on the pediatric focus shift and gained significant hands-on experience treating babies and children. To practice in Ontario, there is a requirement to pass 3 sets of provincial licensing board exams and must maintain our registration by completing a minimum amount of continued education. To have therapeutic prescribing rights in Ontario, there is an additional board exam that must be passed, which Elizabeth has completed. Elizabeth is also a member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) and Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND). Naturopathic doctors are licensed under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991.

 

International Board Certified Lactation Consultant 

  • Elizabeth is a board certified Lactation Consultant who completed her training at the Newman Breastfeeding Clinic/ International Breastfeeding Centre in Toronto. To become a board certified lactation consultant, you must complete a minimum of 95 hours of lactation specific classroom education and a minimum of 500 hours of supervised lactation specific clinical practice. In addition to this, you are required to pass the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners board exam, as well as maintain our certification by completing a minimum amount of continued education. Elizabeth completed her training directly under Dr. Jack Newman, MD who is a renowned, awarded pediatrician and author who is one of the leading experts in this field. 

 

Naturopathic Doula

  • Elizabeth is a Naturopathic Doula who is able to support a birth person and their partner through pregnancy, live birth and postpartum. Only Naturopathic Doctors can become certified as a Naturopathic Doula, and NDs are extensively trained to properly assess, diagnose and treat health conditions. They are trained in many things “baby”, including reproductive health, fertility, pediatrics and nutrition. They also have a variety of tools in our toolbox including acupuncture, homeopathy and botanical medicines which can be very useful throughout pregnancy, labour and postpartum. 

 

Bachelor of Human Kinetics (Movement Science) 

  • Before attending the 4 year Naturopathic medical program, Elizabeth completed a 4 year Kinesiology degree at the University of Windsor with a major in movement science and a minor in psychology. She worked as a manager of a chain of fitness & alternative health facilities in the Windsor/ Essex county area for 3 years before moving to Toronto to attend CCNM.
